Hi, Dan Sheehan from Social Merlin back again for another Marketing Minute. Today’s Topic: “4 Key Branding Tips for Your YouTube Business Channel”
As a financial advisor, you want everything you promote on social media to highlight you and your brand. Your brand is your unique blend of skills, experience, values, and personality, which helps other people form a positive perception of you. Ideally, you want people to view your brand as consistent, reliable, and trustworthy. But how do you differentiate yourself on YouTube and establish a professional, trusted brand? Like all other social media platforms, it requires frequent quality content shared over time to build up the level of trust and engagement to consistently generate new leads for you.
Today I’d like to give you 4 branding tips to incorporate in your YouTube marketing strategy.
1. Make sure your channel display banner on YouTube makes a great first impression, as it introduces you and your brand. To get a bit technical, but it’s important, your banner should be 2560 x 1440 pixels with a maximum file size of 4MB. You can even set-up a different layout design suitable for new viewers and have a separate one for your existing subscribers.
2. Incorporate consistent colors, logo, themes, and fonts in your video material. These should match your overall ‘style guide’ for everything you produce, so that your audience can easily recognize your content in their feeds. Familiarity with your brand creates a sense of comfort and trust. Even if your viewers aren’t ready to reach out to you, they may recommend you to family or friends who are looking for a financial advisor.
3. Produce high-quality videos with good lighting, clear imagery, and great sound. Viewers skip over videos with poor or blurry visuals and unclear audio. You want to portray professionalism and attention to detail through your video quality. As you get a little more comfortable you may want to add ‘closed captioning’ for those who would rather read while following your video.
4. Actively engage when people leave comments or ask questions in the Comments Section. Your channel needs to be interactive to give viewers the confidence that they are engaging with a real person who wants to assist them with their financial goals.
You will also receive negative comments occasionally. Ignore troll comments – mean things people say to provoke a reaction. If you receive honest negative comments; you can still thank the viewer for their feedback and learn from it. There’s always room for improvement. We all need a little thicker skin, including me.
The secret to good branding is consistency, reliability, and quality. Keep your logos and colors the same across all platforms and do not change it. Be reliable with your communications, post regularly, engage regularly, and publish quality videos and content. All this builds trust and is invaluable for audience engagement, as well as lead generation.
