Hi, Dan Sheehan from Social Merlin back again for another Marketing Minute. Today’s Topic: “3 Steps to Get Your YouTube Business Channel Started.”
With the growing popularity of video on all social media networks, it’s time for financial advisors to start creating and promoting video material. You can reach your niche audience more effectively with helpful financial advice and strategies on video.
Today I’d like to discuss how you can get started with your business video channel on YouTube – the world’s largest video network. YouTube has a demographic reach that spans across all age groups because it is so user-friendly. On average, users spend more than an hour a day watching YouTube on mobile. With 1.9 billion monthly users, it’s a platform you should include in your marketing strategy.
YouTube is also becoming a channel of choice for education. Google is investing $20 Million into the YouTube’s Learning initiative. This is good news for financial advisors, as a large part of what we do is educate, inform, and help people with strategic financial decisions.
Here are three steps to get your YouTube Business Channel started:
1. Open a Brand Account on Google before you create a YouTube channel for Business. This step is essential because if you use your regular Google account, only one person can log into your YouTube channel. As you scale your channel or outsource content creation, you may want multiple people to be able to have access to your YouTube channel.
2. Now you can create a Business Channel on YouTube by following the prompts to create a New Channel. After signing in, in the top right, click on the User Icon, then select the Gear Icon to access your YouTube Settings. Click on “Create a new Channel” and then “Use a business or other name.” Now add your financial services practice name and click Create.”
3. Complete all the necessary fields with your business info. Be thorough when you complete your profile and especially the channel description. Describe your brand and value offering so that your viewers know what your channel and you offer. You can also add links to your social network platforms and your website.
Your first video should serve as a simple introduction telling people about yourself and your services. You don’t have to agonize for hours about the background and content, as keeping it casual will make you more relatable. Video does have a higher barrier to entry because most of us hate doing it, which deters most advisors and why you should invest the time and set yourself apart from the crowd. Once you’ve uploaded your first video, you’ll soon be on a roll, so just do it!
